Utility companies operating in California must submit compliance data to OEIS regularly in a specific format. The prior process relied on manual file handling and email, leaving submitters unsure whether a file had actually passed validation and leaving program staff unable to track submissions or give timely feedback.
UDSP needed a clear, self-service way for utilities to upload, validate, and track their data, alongside the administrative tools OEIS staff needed to manage organizations, review submissions, and control access.
Working with OEIS staff and the external development team, I defined the primary user types and their needs, mapped their high-level journeys, and established the information architecture before moving into low-, then high-fidelity wireframes. Applying OEIS’s existing brand standards, I built a design system for UDSP with detailed specifications for the development team and for OEIS’s future use.
I designed every flow around usability and accessibility principles, removing friction from the submission process and keeping submission status clear to all users.
